Nikon Coolpix P50 Review
The Nikon Coolpix P50 is an 8 megapixel compact digital camera with a wide-angle 28-102mm, 3.6x zoom lens, new EXPEED image processing engine and a versatile ISO range of 64-2000. Available in the stylish black version that we tested or a more consumer silver, the Coolpix P50 also offers a 2.4 inch LCD screen and true optical viewfinder, AA-size batteries, Electronic Vibration Reduction, Face Detection and Manual shooting mode. Looking a lot like the more expensive Coolpix P5100 model, the P50 now costs less than £150 in the UK.Its functional body design, with stable grip and rubber thumb rest, to the intuitive operation of its Mode dial, complete with a setting for Manual shooting mode, the COOLPIX P50 is extremely versatile.
Its optical viewfinder enables accurate composition, even in bright sunlight, making it a handy complement to the bright 2.4-inch LCD monitor on the back of the body. Power is supplied by readily available AA-size batteries, which means the Nikon Coolpix P50 can be used in virtually any location without worrying about recharging or running out of power. In some regions, the COOLPIX P50 will be available in a choice of Black or Silver body colours.
Nikon is celebrating ten years of Coolpix cameras, which have brought Nikon’s world-class optics, expertise in digital imaging and outstanding image quality into the hands of millions of consumers.
Building on these achievements, Nikon Europe announced 8 new Nikon Coolpix models in the Performance , Style and Life series. Friendly, fashionable and fun, the sleek, colourful and powerful Coolpix cameras will be any consumer’s constant companions. The new Coolpix cameras continue Nikon’s uncompromising commitment to optical quality, powerful but easy to use technology, and to helping photographers create great images.
Focusing picks up with the lens zoomed in to its full capacity. Here you can see the downside of the wide angle lens. Although the lens is slightly longer than the minimum 3x it is still more distant than many cameras manage. Despite using the white balance setting of cloudy, this photo has less colour in it than most cameras manage to produce. It is a matter of personal taste as to how strong you like colours. The advantage here is a more natural feel to the shot than I am used to seeing. This Nikon Coolpix P50 has produced a sharp photo.
In addition to a selection of 15 scene-optimized modes and five different movie modes, the handy Mode dial also includes settings for two exposure modes that provide greater personal control over camera operation. Programmed Auto [P] mode automatically selects the optimal shutter and aperture settings, while Manual [M] exposure mode provides full control over both the aperture and shutter speed settings.

Nikon Coolpix P50 Reviews:-
# Dpreview Review:- Covering an impressive sensitivity range from ISO 50 all the way up to ISO 2000, the Nikon Coolpix P50 makes it easier to take great-looking pictures in lower lighting conditions, or to capture fast moving subjects with outstanding clarity. The COOLPIX P50 accurately measures available light to automatically select the optimal sensitivity setting for the shot, while its new image-processing engine with enhanced noise reduction preserves high image quality when shooting at high ISO settings.
# Digitalcamera-hq Review:- Overall a wide range of functions that encourages you to explore the commendable limits of this camera. Wide angle coupled with functions coupled with price make this a winner. Slow focusing and post-shot processing limits your moving-subject type shots. No battery indicator, which I would think is an essential feature on any piece of electronic kit. This is really a 4.5 star review as the last two points only take half a star away.
# Photographyblog Review:- Moving to the right hand flank of the camera – if still viewed from the rear – a covered AV out and USB port is discovered, hiding beneath a loop for attaching the supplied wrist strap. At the opposite side of the P50 nestles a built in speaker that provides tinny but adequate sound. The base of the Nikon Coolpix P50 features a screw thread for attaching a tripod, a slide and open lid that hides the compartment for the twin AAs and Secure Digital card, while there’s a further port for attaching the supplied multi purpose AV and USB cable. Battery life is pretty much as expected given that everything is running on AAs – meaning that I found they were almost spent after a couple of afternoons’ use, and just over 100 shots.
