canon digital cameraThe Canon EOS 20D is an 8.2-megapixel semi-professional digital single-lens reflex camera, initially announced on August 19, 2004 at a recommended retail price of US$1,499. It is the successor of the EOS 10D, and is succeeded by the EOS 30D. It can accept EF and EF-S lenses; it uses an APS-C sized image sensor and so does not require the larger imaging circle required in 35 mm film cameras.

The perfect EOS for advanced-amateurs and professionals alike, the EOS 20D sets new standards in its class. Featuring an all-new 8.2 MP CMOS Sensor, a second generation DIGIC II Image Processor, 5 fps performance for up to 23 consecutive frames and a 0.2 second start-up time, the EOS 20D is designed to capture richly detailed, perfectly exposed images with speed formerly found only in cameras several times the price. Other features include a top shutter speed of 1/8000 sec., flash sync at 1/250, a new high-precision 9-point AF System, a built-in multi-controller for fast focusing point selection and a refined magnesium alloy body, for rugged, go anywhere photography. Compatible with not only Canon’s new

EF-S Lenses, but with the entire EOS System of lenses and flashes, the EOS 20D is a professionally featured camera with a consumer price tag.

The EOS 20D digital SLR is both smaller and lighter than the 10D model. The 20D camera is about 3.6 ounces lighter and Canon reduced the width, height and depth by 5.7, 2 and 3.5 mm, respectively. The shutter unit, mirror box, main mirror, pent prism, focusing screen and viewfinder optical unit have all become smaller as they were optimized for the APS-C sensor. The 20D digital SLR has nearly 100 fewer parts than the 10D model. The new camera retains the rugged stainless steel chassis and magnesium alloy body covers of its predecessor for outstanding durability.

The Canon EOS 20D (with appropriate firmware updates) can also accept the Canon Wireless File Transmitter WFT-E1/E1A for fast file transfer to a remote file server, either through an Ethernet cable or a Wi-Fi network. This capability expands the EOS 20D’s range of applications to sports & news photojournalism and studio set ups where real-time transfer of the images is crucial.

The Canon designed and manufactured CMOS sensor has a maximum resolution of 3504 x 2336 pixels, which is sufficient for very large prints (up to 16 x 24 inches) with fine detail. Like its big brother, the

Canon EOS-1D Mark II, the EOS 20D digital SLR satisfies the wedding photographer’s benchmark: facial details in group-shots. With the speed and large buffer of the EOS 20D digital SLR, wedding and portrait photographers have a cost effective solution for capturing both posed and candid event photographs.

 Canon EOS 20D Reviews:-

# dpreview Review:- First impressions of the EOS 20D are good, it feels far less ‘prosumer like’ and instead feels more like a ‘baby EOS-1D’ (as described by one of our team). Gone are some of the annoyances of the EOS 10D, the 20D now switches on virtually instantly and focuses quickly, it feels very solid and yet weighs slightly less than the model it replaces. So far so good.

# amazon Review: - I just got this 20D from Amazon last week. I ordered the body only and the EF-S 17-85 IS lens with it. Shipping was on-time. Regarding the camera - it takes great pictures but man is it heavy! With the EF-S 17-85 lens, it feels like it weighs 5 pounds when it is hanging from my neck or when I’m holding it. The build quality is excellent, though. However, I can’t help but think I should have compromised for the new Digital Rebel XT. The XT and 20D have nearly the same image quality (8.2MP for the 20D and 8.0MP for the XT) and have the exact same processor (Digic II). However, the build quality of the XT is noticeably cheaper and flimsier than the 20D.

The bottom line is that I am pleased with the 20D, the 17-85 lenses, and the ordering/shipping process as well. I hope you find this review helpful.
